Events at The Andiron

 

If you’re planning a friends or family gathering, company retreat, or wedding, The Andiron might just be the right spot for you. We are a fun, charming alternative to your typical venue, and have hosted lots of really fun, really unusual, really special groups from grown-up summer camps to milestone birthdays to memorials.

 

With five acres of meadow and woods, we have plenty of room for a great gathering complete with dining, dancing, games, and carousing in a rustic environment. With 11 cabins and a variety of sleeping arrangements to accommodate around 25 people, folks have space to connect with each other but still have their own room and bathroom to recharge.

 

On site and nearby are PLENTY of activities for groups to enjoy:

  • Use our stage and fire tent for talent shows, karaoke, and awards ceremonies.
  • Movie nights under the stars using our big screen (Creature from the Black Lagoon is an Andiron favorite).
  • Archery, cornhole, croquet, and badminton (along with old-fashioned classics like three-legged races and water balloon tosses) make for some epic summer camp style fun.
  • Progressive dinners from cabin-to-cabin are a fun way to make a meal happen for a big group (especially when combined with costumes and themes).
  • Outriggers for larger groups along with kayaks and canoes – guided or not – are available on Big River ten minutes away. Same goes for the kayaks at Van Damme Beach even closer!
  • Geocaches are everywhere around here if y’all want to team up.
  • Piling a bunch of folks on the Skunk Train or on their rail bikes into the redwoods is super fun (we can book ’em for you too).
  • Getting to know our goats on their daily walks is a hoot. Everyone welcome!
  • Hikes, strolls, bike rides, foraging adventures and more are available for large and small groups alike up here!
  • Guitars around a campfire. Classic, and never fails to entertain!
  • Several local restaurants offer group dining – book in advance!
  • And come nightfall, soak in the hot tub under the stars.

Holidays at The Andiron

Come join us at The Andiron for various holidays year round!

  • We celebrate christmas (December 24-December 30) with lots of vintage decorations, a big beautiful tree with a wild collection of ornaments, seasonal special beverages at nightly happy hours like mulled wine, rum toddies, or hot cocoa, surprise treats, and the warmest and merriest fire tent around.
  • New Year’s Eve brings out festive and fun decor, hats, noisemakers, bubbles, music, kinship, and more surprises…and is always a magical blast!
  • Be prepared to choose a handmade and totally unique easter bonnet come spring (plus pretty colored eggs for everyone if our chickens are feeling generous).
  • On the Fourth of July, we usually head to Mendocino’s perfectly perfect small hippie town parade – you’ll want to choose one of our sassy handmade paper hats just so you fit in if you’re watching too. Oh, and sometimes we have a float too!
  • Mr. and Mrs. Andiron used to have a haunted house in their home, so Halloween means scary and stylish decor and we pull out all the spooky movies for your terrifying enjoyment.

FAQs

 

Some things you should know about booking The Andiron for your group:

  • Our cabins can accommodate 24 adults (six king beds, five queens, one twin, and one full size convertible sofa). We have three additional rollaways that can accommodate adolescents and small children. That’s it folks! Other than babies, that’s all the people you can bring. No camping, campers, tents, sleeping bags, etc.
  • Even though you’ve rented out the place, normal rules for civilized living apply! Like: we have neighbors so you’ll have to pipe down after about 10pm. And: Umm, no you can’t bring the indoor furniture outside.
  • We are non-smoking. For reals. No smoking. Not outside, not inside, no sneaky smoking, nothing. If we find any evidence of smoking, we’ll charge you $200 and then $25 for each butt we find. Don’t be that guy!
  • We have very little indoor common space. Thus, the majority of your fun will probably have to take place outdoors, regardless of weather. We have a tent with two firepits and seating for about 15 folks for gathering around them. Fire keeps things pretty warm regardless of season!
  • We have two picnic tables for your use as well.

If you’re having an EVENT for which you’ll have *any* catering, tables, chairs, or tenting brought in OR any additional guests beyond those staying in the cabins (like a wedding) in addition to booking all the cabins for your group, some additional guidelines apply:

  • Have you stayed with us before? Hope so! You can only get married OR host an event here if you’ve stayed with us at least once.
  • Two night minimum! (Check in the day before your event; check out the day after).
  • No more than 75 guests total for your event (including those staying with us).
  • You’ll want to work with local vendors (we can give you a list) for *everything.* Catering, tents, chairs, kitchen…everything. Vendors can set up between 12 the day before your event (NO earlier) and MUST be completed cleaning everything up by 2pm the day after your event.
  • Porta-potties are necessary for gatherings more than 30 people (including those staying on the property).
  • Guests not staying on the property are permitted to come no more than hour before your event and must scram by one hour after your event.
  • Registered guests only in the hot tub.
  • Only dogs of registered guests allowed to come!
  • We charge a $500 site fee.
